WOYWW 30 NOV

Hello and happy WOYWW!

I've been busy since returning from TX.  Since being back I have worked 2 full days, gone grocery shopping, made soup, chopped cucumber and celery, and of course I did some art.  Today I worked on my Christmas Cards!  If you missed my Christmas Card post last week click that link and you can check it out.  Here are some photos of my new ones:
Snowflakes are like kisses from heaven.

Each snowflake falls exactly where it was meant to.

On top of all of that, I put Christmas lights up outside (which I didn't do last year)

and I put together my Christmas Tree, light it up and put a tree skirt on it.

Still have 3 boxes of Christmas stuff to go through - most of it is ornaments, and I hope to get it done by this weekend.

If you want to check out some more people's desks then go on over to Stamping Ground.

Doodles & Things to Put in Your Journal

Hey guys!  Today is my last day in Texas.  I should be eating breakfast and getting ready for my flight but since I was not able to post last night I am doing it now.  Just wanted to show you some doodles (or something like that) in my art journal:
Outlined snowflakes on a spread to see how it would look

Pink Neocolor on the page and then lines with a micron

Also wanted to show you what I put into my journal lately... my race bib from the Turkey Trot:

A 2012 calendar from a planner I took apart:

I also took out this list of commonly misspelled words:

Always good to have those last two things for reference.  So..next time you are going to toss something...consider putting it in your journal.  Ok..sorry to be so short but I've got some packing to do.  Have a great day!!

Tearing Pages

Hi guys!  Did you go shopping on black Friday?  My mom and I only ventured out to Walmart so that we could get some healthy snacks and return some shoes that she had got before.  Surprisingly Walmart was not that busy - not nearly as busy as at Christmas.  We did go at about noon though so perhaps all the black Friday shoppers were gone already!

Yesterday I did a run/walk for 40 min for some exercise and we made Weight Watchers Free Soup.  I have not had that soup in a long time so it was really good!!

I did some playing in my journal but nothing to monumental, but this morning I did something worth talking about.  I started reading the Journal Junkies book by the Journal Fodder Junkies (FYI this is a great book for beginners and experienced journalers alike!) there is a part about tearing pages in your journal and I have never done that so I thought I would try it.  So.. I painted two pages with watercolors.  Then I tore the two painted pages:

Then I took the small parts that I tore off and folded a small flap on them:

Then I glued them both onto the first page so it looks like 4 pages were torn:

And then I thought that the white page needed color so I painted that one too:

I don't know yet what I am going to journal on it but I will certainly show it to you guys when I do something on it!

Today we are going to get pedicures ( I love those!) and possibly go buy some jeans for my dad.  I hope you guys have a great day!!

Art Journal Pages

Hey guys, I know I have not posted a lot lately about what has been going on in my Art Journal, but I have been arting away!  So, I wanted to show you some pages:

I have done a lot of other things - little things on different pages and so I have a lot of not-complete pages too...here is a sneak peak:

I will show you the completed ones when they are done!  Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

Thanksgiving and Christmas Cards

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I hope that you all get to spend time with your families/loved ones!  I am back in Texas for 5 days to spend time with my mom, dad and grandma.  My dad and I went and did the 2nd Annual Arlington Turkey Trot this morning. We were able to walk the whole 5k course! Here are some photos:
Me and a very large turkey

Santa was at the race

So was a turkey

Happy that the race was almost over

And since I said I would post about my Christmas Cards today, here it is!

I have become slightly obsessed with snowflake backgrounds... you will see them a lot in the next few posts.  I did the tutorial in this post, so if you are curious you can check it out.  The whole idea started because I thought they would make good Christmas Card backgrounds.  Anyway, you are here to see the cards, right?  Here they are:

"have a holly jolly Christmas" in the middle and "merry...merry...merry" on bottom edge

"Merry Christmas" in center and hanging ball ornaments on each side

"Merry Christmas" in middle; "merry...merry...merry" on top & bottom edges

I know the blue stamps on the blue ink does not show up too well in the photos but in real life it is just right to be a nice subtle card - and I like it so that's all that matters!  I already have 6 more cards done with backgrounds.  4 of them will be getting scrapbook ephemera and I am not sure about the other two yet.  Each Christmas Card is going to be unique because I do not control the snowflake layout and the spray works different each time.  Also I am not repeating any stamping pattern either.  I will have more cards to show you but probably not for another week or so since I am currently traveling.

If you are making your own Christmas Cards I would love to see them, leave me a link!!  Have a great day.

BOSS Pre-Thanksgiving Lunch

On the 22nd the BOSS Program held a Pre-Thanskgiving Lunch for all of the Single Soldiers on post.  About 250 Soldiers came by.  A bunch of us BOSS reps volunteered to work the event:

We stayed at the booth and gave people information, helped them enter to win an X-Box 360 and directed them to the food!

The Soldiers got information from booths such as Army Community Service, Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, Army Wellness Center, USO and USAA:

Soldiers played games outside:

And inside:

And got popcorn and slushies:

And of course Soldiers ate food:

The Garrison Command Sergeant Major even visited:

It was a good event!  I am really glad I have had the opportunity to be a part of the BOSS Program because I think it really makes a positive impact on so many Soldier's lives.

WOYWW 23 NOV

Its been a while since I played along, but I wanted to play today because there are tons of things on my work desk - I did a lot this morning!  First, I have been working on making Christmas Cards.  The background to the majority of them is snowflakes.  Here is what I do... lay out the chipboard snowflakes on plain cards:

Or on a journal:

and then Spray with this:

I fill it with a few drops of blue acrylic ink and a little less silver acrylic ink and then add water and mist away:

The end result is this:

Cool huh?

I am leaving later today to go back to Texas for Thanksgiving so I wanted to also do some backgrounds in my journals that I am taking with me.  I decided to play around some more with the inks... I made this spread:
Because I want to put this in the journal as a fold out:

I also made these:
2 tags and an altered book spread
pages in travel art journal
I had a lot of fun and got really messy:

If you want to see more people's work desks then head over to Stamping Ground!  If you want to see my Christmas Cards then come back tomorrow.  Have a great day everyone!
