One of the recent assignments in our sketchbook for drawing class was to pick a topic/subject and do an art journal spread with one page about the Objective view of chosen subject and the other page about the Subjective view of the topic. I chose to do my spread on my pink hair! So, here is the spread:
And a close of up of the Objective Page:
And a close up of the Subjective Page:
I REALLY like how the girl turned out. I kept the tracing paper that I made the sketch on - and I used it again for another art journal page! I really want to use it with collaged eyes/face but first I will need to find appropriate parts! Just for kicks, here is a recent photo of me with my pink hair:
I absolutely love it and I am surprised that most people have said they like it as well. Only a few negative people, but I just ignore them. Most people say how much it makes my blue eyes stick out.
Well friends, that is all I have for you today. Have a great rest of the day.

Creativity {While Waiting}
The other day, as I was waiting for the movers - for like 8 hours!!! - I was complaining of boredom on Twitter (@mimsrachel) and Tammy from Daisy Yellow clued me into a Flickr Group called Creativity {While Waiting} - a group dedicated to pictures of whatever creative thing you did while waiting on/for something. So, of course I had to get in on the action and do some art so I could post pictures. So, here is what I did:
This AJ background, on which I fully intend to do some writing, but have not yet gotten around to it!
I also finally finished this Zentangle:
I started it quite a while ago in my sketchbook for drawing class but had not felt like finished it. So, while waiting I looked up some new tangle patterns that I had not previously used and finished the page.
I also drew this:
It is one of the trees in the back yard at the house. It was covered with flowers and leaves. I didn't do too detailed of a drawing, but I am VERY happy with how it turned out.
So, this actually helped me pass quite a bit of time and I was really glad that I got some work done in my sketchbook. Its one of those things that is always in the back of my mind - the thought "you need to draw more in your sketchbook."
I really do think I have improved with this drawing class though. I'm kind of sad that I am leaving such a good instructor.
Today in drawing class we talked about our final project. We are supposed to do 3-5 drawings 18x24 or larger, that are a series / all on the same theme/subject/topic - we have to express something with the drawings. So, right now I am trying to figure out exactly what I want to draw because the idea I originally had will not work. Hopefully my brain will figure this thing out soon!!
Well friends, that is all I have for you for now! I hope you have a lovely day!!

More Postcards!!!
Hi guys! So, I think I am adequately settled into my hotel room now. All that is left to do at the house is carpet cleaning (required by rental company) which is at 2pm, and then one last mopping of the floor before I leave. Then Wednesday morning I do my final inspection with the realtor. So, since my last post I have received five more postcards!! Its awesome. So, here are some photos:
This one came from Donna in St. Louis. She blogs at Bonnie Blue Denim . For this card she used an old French/English flash card from 1960. I really like it! And, she had an awesome "Official Mail Art" stamp that she used on the other side. I want one of those!!! Thanks Donna.
My next card:
Came from Anna in Sweden!! I like how she sewed/wove the thread through the card. She has a website:
Fabriksgatan but the hotel Internet is TERRIBLE so I am not sure if I am viewing the whole thing/if there is an option to translate to English. Thank you for the card, Anna!
Next I got this lovely card:
From Wendy in PA. I'm always envious of other people's mixed media layering - I never feel like my attempts turn out right. I like how Wendy's turned out. Wendy blogs at Tea With Lemon Photography , go check it out. Thank you, Wendy.
Well guys, I don't want to spoil all the fun and show you all the cards at once - because what would I show you tomorrow if I did? So, come back tomorrow and I will have two more lovely cards for you to see!! Have a GREAT day!!

Moving
Hi guys, just wanted to tell you that I am in the process of moving - the packers are coming today and tomorrow they load everything up. So, it may be a few days before I get situated and post again. But, to hold you over I have some photos of things you have not yet seen!!
First I made another 8x10 piece for the 8x10x20 show:
Again, probably not something the school is expecting but I like it.
I did this project for art history:
But, I did it in my sketch book for drawing in hopes that it counts for that class too! My art history class is called "Women in Art" and it is all about women artists. It is very interesting because typical art history usually does not teach much about women artists. I have learned a lot so far.
Well, hopefully I won't be gone too long! In the mean time, have a great day/s!

The Swap is in Full Swing
I went to the post office the other day to mail my postcards for iHanna's swap and guess what - I had 3 lovely post cards waiting for me in my PO Box!! I was so excited. I got some good ones!! Here they are for your viewing pleasure:
This cute card came from Pia in Germany who blogs at http://www.blog.einfach-atmen-berlin.de/#home - thanks Pia!!
This card came from Carlene (sp?) in Tennessee. I love getting cards that have sewing on them - I always wish I had a sewing machine so I could try it out! Thank you Carlene!
This card came from Julie in Pittsburgh! That paper has a really interesting texture. Thanks Julie!!
I absolutely love getting such pretty things in the mail! Isn't it so much better than getting bills?
I am going to spend the day getting ready for the movers - they are coming to pack up my stuff on Thursday afternoon right after I get out of class. So, I have to have everything ready before tomorrow evening. Wish me luck!! Have a great day!

Carved Tile Project Part I
We just started a new project in my design class. We are carving ceramic tiles. Once done we will cast them in plaster and then cast more tiles from the plaster mold. So, I am doing my best to do something along the lines of this photo:
Here is my tile:
And after some more work:
I had to stop though because it was not dry enough to get the fine details for the legs and feet. Hopefully it will be just right next time I go to class. I will keep taking pictures of the project for you guys as we progress so you can follow me through the steps!
Also, update, I've taken half a box of Mucinex Extra Strength and I am doing so much better! I hope that by the time I finish the box I will be back to healthy!
Yesterday a group of us from the school's Fine Arts Club went to the VA and did mandalas with the residents. I could not take pictures but I just wanted to tell you guys that it was a fun experience - nice to meet those guys who did so much for our country. I worked with a nice guy who was in the Navy and he told me about going to Hawaii and the Philippines. Hopefully we can go back again and do another project with them. OK...I'm running out of time. Have a great day.

Surprise!!
Hi everyone! Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Did you remember to wear green today? I didn't but my neighbor reminded me so I changed into a green shirt.
Are you ready for the surprise? Ok, well here it is:
Yep, I finally did it - I dyed my hair hot pink! What do you think? I absolutely love it! I've had it for a total of 24 hours now. I looked pretty funny with the platinum blond hair that I had to get first in order for the dye to take - I doubt I will ever do platinum blond. I think I will keep the pink for a while!
This morning I had a garage sale and sold a bunch of stuff. Then I packed the rest of it away. Took the remaining books to the re-sale book store and got $5, and some clothes to the re-sale clothes store and got $13 and donated what was left to the Salvation Army.
I am absolutely exhausted now. I have earned the right to sit on my behind for the rest of the day. I hope you guys have a great weekend!!

4 More Post Cards
Woo hoo, 4 more post cards finished! I love making post cards - small pieces of art work. I almost always get inspired for other pieces of artwork.
I really like how they turned out. I ended up with a wide range of subjects and styles. I hope my recipients enjoy them. I will be addressing them today! I actually ended up with a few extra but offered them up on Facebook and had some takers almost instantly! These cards will be going all over the world!
I think - Hope! - that I've found a medication that is working. I feel better today than I have in several mornings and usually I feel better throughout the day than in the morning. So, fingers crosses, I hope to be on the getting better side of this sickness.
I have something fun planned for later today, but I'm going to save the reveal so I can show you a picture! I will definitely show you guys tomorrow!! Have a great day and come back to see my surprise tomorrow!

3 More Post Cards
I did some more post cards!! So, here they are for your viewing pleasure:
I am really looking forward to getting them out in the mail (hopefully by Friday) and especially to start receiving more post cards!!
The cards have helped distract me (at least for a few hours) from the fact that I am pretty sick right now. Not sure what is going on - allergies, sinuses, strep throat? I don't know but its crappy. I am taking a lot of allergy medicine and a lot of cold medicine and still feel horrible. And today the coughing started. Hopefully this will go away soon.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great day!!

This skirt was made from scrapbook paper and wire!!
These loafer shoes were made from duct tape and cardboard.
This last project was made from bleach bottles and staples. This person actually used a few extra materials though - spray paint and plastic bags.

Wearable Art
Yesterday we did our critique for the Mundane Wearable Art Project. So, I took lots of photos so I could show you guys. Here we go....
This skirt was made from zip ties and bubble wrap. The necklace and ear rings were just the zip ties.
This vest was made from notebook paper and a glue stick.
This skirt was made from grocery store bags and pipe cleaners. And...
This skirt was made from brown paper and some sort of cloth that she found in the supply cabinet. I think this one was actually cute enough to wear!
So, are you guys inspired to make wearable art of your own?? Come back tomorrow and I will show you guys some more!!!

I just got the email with my addresses so pretty darn soon I'm going to have to knock out those other 5 postcards, right? Hopefully Tuesday!! Have a great day, and I hope to "see" you soon.

Sketchbook
One of our assignments for drawing class it to keep a sketchbook/journal. I was very excited about this at first because I love to do art journaling and I thought "hey this is right up my alley." Over the course of the semester though I have been feeling like I don't draw enough for drawing class and that my teacher was going to get onto me. So, Here are some pages I did recently...a typical, my style page:
It says " this sketchbook/journal project makes me feel pressure to change my style. I just want to art journal like normal."
A mandala because we are going to be doing a mandala project at the VA Hospital in a few weeks:
And for more drawings I tried, for the first time, blind contour drawing! Here was my first one:
My hand and sleeve.... and then I drew my gun:
I like blind contour because there is no pressure to make it look realistic because your not even looking at the paper! So, I think I will try it some more. Whats funny is that I've noticed in class that I always start a drawing larger than I end up finishing it - over time it gets smaller... same thing happened during the blind contour drawings.
Anyways, my teacher took our sketchbooks up the other day to grade them and I was pleasantly surprised! He called me up there to talk to me and said he liked that I was experimenting with a lot of different things. So, now I don't feel the pressure to change - I will just keep on going like I have been!!
Today I am headed back to Victory Junction for another weekend! I will tell you all about it on Monday. Have a great weekend!!
